KAMI has landed in Kluang! Hilman, Isz D'Barney, Kecik and Lings came by Kluang yesterday evening and stayed a night exploring Kluang as well as to celebrate the Tiger Year with yours sincerely. The main agenda of the visit was to EAT, EAT and EAT. There are a few things that came into my mind when we talk about food in Kluang.
First stop: Kedai Asam Pedas at Kluang Baru! It was pricey (bill came up to over RM70 for 4 dishes) but it was so worth it. Apparently the otak-otak served wasn't the 'usual' kind that these people from KL, Penang and Selangor have been having. It has prawns, mussels and whatever not in it. The asam pedas ikan merah was average with a strong asam kick to it. Aside from that, the sambal sotong petai was amazingly HOT and SPICY. Overall, a good start to a great trip in Kluang :)
After dinner, we went back to the hotel to rest and prepare for the next day. (Well, of course we didn't sleep that early but whatever happened that night is another topic for another day... Hehehe...)
How can anyone come and visit Kluang for the first time NOT have a cup of the famous Kluang coffee? So, for breakfast, the bunch of us took off to Kluang Rail Coffee opposite Kluang Parade for some Kopi-O, roti bakar and telur separuh masak.
I have no idea what they put in the coffee but it's good. Maybe it's the beans. Or the coal-toasted roti bakar. Or it could be half-boiled eggs. Either way, breakfast was great and for the boys, drinking the coffee was such a life-changing experience that I had to bring them to this place opposite Dewan Chong Hwa that sells Television-brand coffee powder to stock-up for them to bring back home.
Obviously there's a limit as to how much food our stomach can hold so, we drove around Kluang talking about the history of this town during the colonial era, World War 2 period as well as the various developments since then. Kluang have always been a special town with all sorts of different and unique characteristics in comparison to other towns of the same size/shape.
Dinner? Check.
Breakfast? Check.
Now, time for lunch. We had Tangkak Beef Noodles, which is situate roughly a block behind Kluang Rail Coffee. The meat were soft, supple and proved to the perfect accompaniment to the noodle and soup, mixed and cooked to perfection. Add some vinegar and the taste of the beef will jump out with a great kick.
That was pretty much it! We have successfully completed our quest of eating at least 3 awesome meals a day (Well, sort of...).
Of course they did the whole visiting the house thing for Chinese New Year and it was good for my family to get to meet the people that I hang out with when I'm not at home ;)
